Montague Apartments
Located on a leafy South Melbourne corner, this boutique development of three whole-floor apartments reinterprets the area’s Edwardian and Art Deco heritage through a refined contemporary lens. Each three-bedroom plus study residence includes direct access to a private two-car garage, storage, and generous outdoor living, while two rooftop pools and dining terraces crown the building, framing city views.
The sculptural façade; defined by horizontal lines, curved balconies, and planters, references the eaves and fenestration of the adjacent 1873 O’Connell’s Pub, ensuring the new form sits respectfully within its historic setting. A full-height green wall along Patterson Place softens the building’s edges and links it to the leafy surrounds.
Sustainability is embedded through passive design: northern orientation maximises daylight, deep balconies mitigate heat gain, and double glazing enhances comfort. The project also contributes positively to the public realm, reducing on-street parking and improving local amenity.
Internally, a pared-back palette of marble, oak herringbone flooring, and black cabinetry offers a robust, elegant foundation for individual expression. Light refracted from rooftop pools filters into living spaces below, a poetic gesture that captures the project’s essence; crafted, connected, and enduring. Together, these apartments present a sophisticated and sustainable model for urban living.
