Garton House
Located in inner North Melbourne, Garton House reinterprets a Victorian dwelling for contemporary family life. Original elements - including the façade, lacework, archways, and verandah - were carefully restored to maintain continuity with the surrounding heritage streetscape.
Living spaces were relocated to the rear, forming light-filled areas that open to a landscaped courtyard, while bedrooms remain at the front to preserve privacy. A restrained yet confident interior palette introduces a contemporary counterpoint to the restored Victorian shell.
Close collaboration between architect, builder, and client ensured a pragmatic and enduring outcome, balancing heritage sensitivity with modern liveability.
