Paton Hill
Panton Hill is a refined expression of contemporary architecture seamlessly integrating with its natural landscape. Originally envisioned as a family retreat, the design evolved into a permanent residence, balancing sculptural form with functionality. Nestled into the site’s natural slope, Panton House follows the land’s contours to minimise visual impact whilst optimising passive solar performance, natural light penetration and expansive bushland views. Two distinct bedroom wings extend from a central living pavilion, reinforcing a sense of spatial fluidity while delineating private and communal zones. Generous glazing frames the ever-changing landscape, while a robust material palette of weathered corten steel and muted finishes ensures longevity and cohesion with the rugged environment.
Engineered for self-sufficient, off-grid living, Panton House integrates a high-performance solar energy system and substantial rain water harvesting. Fire-resilient materials and strategic land management practices mitigate environmental risks while enhancing durability.
A key landscape element is the pool, designed to reflect a natural waterhole, offering both a cooling respite and a visual extension of the surrounding terrain. Panton House exemplifies a synthesis of sustainability, and architectural refinement, responding to its bushland setting with sensitivity and innovation.
